We&#x27;re doing it again. And you are invited.Last year when Christine was craving Pecan Pie &amp; shared with Robyn her wisp of an idea to eat  pie with some friends, she had no idea it would turn into the delicious extended community gathering it is turning into. <h2>THIS IS WHY WE EAT THE PIE</h2>The Pie Fezt weaves together Christine &amp; Robyn&#x27;s traditions. It is a nod to the abundant Amish County Potlucks of Christine&#x27;s childhood with a flash of New Orleans flair, Robyn&#x27;s home city. Sac-religious? Probably. Delightful? Definitely.Potlucks are a way of gathering extended community together. Everyone contributes food &amp; drinks to share with each other. (You also bring your own plates, cups, utensils, &amp; anything you need for the afternoon.) This Pie Fezt is for our extended community in Basel. As foreigners we have minimal extended family and can often feel like we are alone or like the odd ones out. The Pie Fezt is one of our local initiatives to bring people together who would otherwise never meet. It is a free event that Robyn Tanner &amp; Christine Gerber Rutt organize each year for 50-80 people. (Although tip jars are available for those who would like to spread the community spirit to the musicians or the tarot readings.) Basically, we eat pie &amp; have live music from a local band on a Saturday afternoon. <h2>MUSICIANS</h2>Each year we hire local musicians that demonstrate the community spirit we hope to build in our city. This year we are incredibly jazzed to have Zarek Silberschmidt, guitar, and George Ricci, Clarinet. <h2>TAROT READINGS</h2>Once again Skye will give a limited number of flash tarot readings. A sign-up sheet will be available, as well as a Tarot Tip Jar. All tips in the Tarot Tip Jar go directly to Skye.<h2>PLEASE BRING</h2><ul><li>a sweet or savory pie to share (Pie is defined very broadly, from Fruit Pie to Pizza to Pierogies to Samosas to Dumplings to Empanadas to Pasties to Xian Bing.)</li></ul><ul><li>drinks to share</li><li>your own plates, cutlery, cups</li><li>good will &amp; kind spirit</li><li>tip jars will be available for the musicians &amp; tarot reader.</li></ul><h2>FAQ&#x27;s</h2>Can&#x27;t Bake? Yes, you can buy a pie to bring. Or/and if you would like to contribute in another way, contact Christine for a list of items that we need to pull off this gathering.Coffee or Tea? We are unable to provide coffee and tea this year. If you would like some, please bring your own in a thermos. Also feel free to bring a cooler filled with cold drinks to share.Toilets? Yes. Indoor toilets are available.Public transportation? Bus 36 Kunsteisbahn or Winkelriedplatz. Tram 16 Solothurnerstrasse. SBB Main Train Station is approx a 5-10 minute walk.Parking? Limited street side parking available. We Provide? Venue, tables for pie and drinks, limited seating, napkins, water, musicians, card reader, sidewalk chalkCosts? This is a free event. Those who are inspired to tip the musicians or tarot reader will be able to via the tip jars we will have available for each. But we want to make this event financially accessible to all and offer this as an option with no obligation. <h3></h3><h3>IN CASE OF RAIN? </h3>We will be in a villa garden. Think: sun, tree shade, grass, pavement. We do not have indoor facilities. If it rains, the Pie Fezt will be canceled &amp; we&#x27;ll all cry but we hope you would instead invite a close friend or ten over to our own homes to share pie. QUESTIONS?
