Health Innovation Exchange (HIEx)

Connecting local production, technology transfer and financing to help countries scale health innovation and build resilience.

Church Center of the United Nations

Access to essential healthcare remains a major challenge for many countries, especially where health systems depend heavily on imported technologies, fragile supply chains and limited local production capacity. This session will explore how local manufacturing, technology transfer, investment and innovative financing can help countries strengthen health sovereignty, reduce costs and scale access to breakthrough health solutions.Hosted by the Health Innovation Exchange, the discussion will bring together Missions, innovators, investors and ecosystem partners to examine a set of deployment-ready technologies with strong potential for local adaptation and scale. These include advanced cell and gene therapy platforms, AI-driven point-of-care ultrasound, autonomous drone logistics for medical supply delivery, and artificial intelligence solutions that can support diagnostics, health workforce capacity and system efficiency. The session will look beyond the technologies themselves to the partnerships and implementation models needed to make them work. This includes regulatory pathways, workforce training, local assembly and manufacturing, market access, blended financing and public-private collaboration. For Member States, the opportunity is clear: build stronger domestic health capabilities, reduce reliance on imports, improve supply chain resilience, create jobs and support the development of local medtech, biotech and digital health industries. This session is designed for leaders and partners interested in turning health innovation into practical, locally anchored pathways for long-term impact.
