Meet the Moderator: Heiko Visarius, PhD

After 25 years of a career in major Life Science companies (Depuy-Synthes / J&J, Medtronic), Heiko Visarius started his own company in 2012. Besides being a sought-after coach for Innosuisse, the EU (EIC) and others, he is active in consulting mandates, holds 7 board mandates (incl. ZKB Startup P/E fonds), serves on numerous jury and expert panels and is co-organising and moderating meetings such as Swiss Medtech Day, Credit Suisse BA event, Roche Startup-Day, Medtech Innovation Event et al. Heiko is a vivid networker in the field of Life Science and has strong personal relations to investors, strategic players, hospitals and others in the field.

Meet the Panellists

Dr Marko Loparic, MD-PhD, CMO, Co-Founder, Co-Inventor holds an entrepreneurial M.D.-PhD with over 15 years’ "from bench to bedside" experience in innovation, development, and utilisation of nanotechnology-based rapid diagnostic methods in oncology, orthopedics, integrative diagnostic and mixed reality platforms in clinical practice and protocols where he has created several patents and innovations. In addition, Dr Loparic conducted clinical research, with a feasibility study of using nanomechanical measurements as the potent marker for osteoarthritis and cancer diagnosis. He co-founded ARTIDIS AG, and since 2018 has served as the Chief Medical Officer (CMO).

Christian Hebich is the Group CEO of Arcondis and has 30 years' experience in the healthcare industry in various senior roles. Prior to becoming Group CEO of Arcondis, he served as the company's Senior Advisor and Chief Strategy Officer. Before that, he assumed the position of Business Area Head at Roche Diagnostics, also being responsible for the worldwide Lab Automation and Digital Product Portfolio. In this role the Digital Transformation of Healthcare contributing to a more effective patient journey was the front and centre of his activities.

Thomas Metcalfe works in Roche’s Personalised Healthcare (PHC) global ecosystems team which is part of the Roche Pharma PHC. His work focuses on healthcare system partnerships related to PHC, Value Based Healthcare and public private partnerships. He represents Roche within the European Federation of Pharma Industry Associations (EFPIA) Innovation Committee and is the Roche lead in the IMI Health Outcomes Observatories (H2O) project. Prior to this Tom was the Data Policy Lead within Roche Pharma PHC until March 2019. Between March 2015 and March 2018 he was a Strategic Innovation Leader in Roche Pharma Global Product Development with a focus on Digital Health, Innovative Development Pathways and the use of comprehensive genomics profiling technologies in the development of cancer medicines. He joined Roche from Oncotest GmbH, a preclinical CRO focused on oncology models, where he was Managing Director.

Before this Tom spent seven years working for Roche Pharma as the Global Head of the Biomarker Program and Head of the PHC Portfolio. He also spent 10 years working for Roche Diagnostics in a variety of leadership roles in marketing and business development.

Tom studied Biochemistry at King's College, London University and has an MBA from the Open University, UK.

Abdullah Kahraman is a group leader and lecturer for data science in life science at the School for Life Sciences of the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland. He is also a group leader at the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics and a platform leader at BiotechNet Society. In the past, he was heading the clinical bioinformatics team at the Department of Pathology and Molecular Pathology of the University Hospital Zurich, where he co-established various cancer diagnostic tests of Roche/Foundation Medicine Inc. for Swiss cancer patients. He did his postdocs in structural proteomics and cancer genomics at the ETH and the University of Zurich, respectively and a Ph.D. in computational biology at the University of Cambridge, UK. By training, Abdullah Kahraman is a bioinformatician with a degree from the University of Applied Sciences Giessen, Germany. He is recipient of various fellowships, grants, best talk awards and has published over 40 peer-reviewed papers and is a co-organizer of the annual ”Clinics Meets Data Science” Symposium.
