This course covers the basics of transmitted light microscopy. After a theoretical introduction to questions such as How does a microscope work? and What is resolution?, you will handle and align microscopes and gain experience in brightfield and contrast imaging methods (phase and DIC).
As a last step we will learn about optical aberrations and how to deal with them.
This year, you will also have the chance to build a simple, rail-based light microscope.
The course day starts with a lecture at 9:00h in the morning which has unlimited (approx.50) seating.
The number of participants in the hands-on session in the afternoon (starting at 13:00h) is however limited as we cannot accommodate more than 15 participants at the various microscopes. Thus, if you register we are looking forward to welcome you in the morning and in the afternoon.
