<p>Increasing alarm about the spread of disinformation has led to a significant escalation in efforts to combat this issue in recent years. The World Economic Forum has even identified disinformation as the foremost threat facing the world over the next two years, surpassing other critical concerns like climate change and armed conflicts. This growing anxiety raises an important question: are these fears warranted? The latest and best empirical evidence challenges the dominant narrative that disinformation is such a severe threat. Based on this evidence, the talk disputes common assumptions about the prevalence and impact of disinformation and proposes a different perspective on the problem of disinformation in the digital age.</p><p>Join us for an informative event on 30 October 2024 from 17:30 to 19:00, followed by an aperitif. As part of the "Disinformation Month" series of the Digital Society Initiative of the University of Zurich, Dr. Sacha Altay and Dr. Emma Hoes (Department of Political Science, University of Zurich) will discuss the topic "Everything You Know About Disinformation is Wrong". The event will take place at the Digital Society Initiative, Rämistrasse 69, 8001 Zurich, Room SOC-E-010.</p>
