How to grow vegan leather using kombucha
Learn how you can grow a vegan leather alternative using kombucha! #hpm#ws#make#ls
Did you know the weird and wonderful SCOBY (symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast) film that floats on top of kombucha cultures can be used as a vegan leather alternative?
In this new workshop series, you will learn the basics of kombucha fermentation and set up your own culture to grow a small sheet of vegan leather!
Please note: your SCOBY culture will require time to 1) grow, 2) dry, and then 3) requires some post-processing to achieve a leather-like feel!
Your 'leather' will be fully grown in 2-3 weeks. You are welcome to return to the lab to complete steps #2 and #3 on your own, or we can do this for you.
Please also note: this workshop is taking place in a non-food grade lab space. This means we cannot consume the kombucha produced. You will however learn the basics of kombucha fermentation and where to obtain a starter culture, if you want to continue doing this in your own kitchen.
No prior lab experience required.
