About this event

The second episode of our webinar series will look at home based oral care from the perspective of orthodontics. Patients undergoing orthodontic treatment present intriguing challenges. It is well established that orthodontic appliances can cause increased plaque accumulation because of an increased number of sites and surfaces where plaque and debris can be retained. Moreover, the appliances also hinder conventional home based oral care habits, such as toothbrushing and interdental cleaning. As a result, orthodontic treatment is associated with an increased risk for oral conditions such as periodontal problems, demineralization/white spot lesions, and caries. Most oral care professionals will also acknowledge that teeth move quicker in a healthy mouth, so optimal oral hygiene is essential. In this webinar episode, we aim to explore how exactly orthodontic treatment complicates home based oral care, what the consequences are, and what can be done to achieve optimal oral hygiene anyway.
