Let's talk Oral Health - Pediatric dentistry and home-based oral care

The fifth episode of our webinar series will explore everything related to home based oral care from the perspective of pediatric dentistry.

The foundation of life-long good oral health is laid during childhood, which is why it is so important to pay attention to oral hygiene during this life stage. However, when we are talking about children, we are also talking about an extremely vulnerable group, heavily dependent on their parents. Moreover, this group of patients also presents with unique oral health challenges, such as early childhood caries, molar incisor hypomineralisation, etc. What are the common risk factors for such conditions, how do you prevent them developing, and if they do, how do you manage them? Questions that can be answered by our expert duo, who have a different background, but the same passion: pediatric dentistry.

Dr. Silvia Sabatini - RDH, MSc. Course Director Dental Hygiene Program, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy. Silvia holds a Bachelor’s degree with honours in Dental Hygiene, a Master’s degree with honours in Health Professions of Technical Sciences and a st-level master’s degree in Advanced Dental Hygiene Technologies. She also has postgraduate degrees at UCL Eastman Dental Institute (London, UK), New York State University (Buffalo, USA), Harvard Medical School (Boston, USA) and King’s College London (London, UK). Finally, she has a 1st-level specialising master’s degree in Oral Health Management for Patients with Special Needs and is currently obtaining her 2nd-level master’s degree in Health Management. Silvia is president of the Italian Society of Oral Hygiene Sciences (SISIO), vice president of the Academy of Advanced Technologies in Oral Hygiene Sciences (ATASIO), Director of Studies and Professor for the BSc Dental Hygiene degree course at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. She teaches for the BSc Dental Hygiene degree course at the Tor Vergata University of Rome. Besides this, she authors international research papers and lecturs in several courses and dental congresses.

Dr. Luis Karakowsky - DMD. Past President Mexican Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Mexico. Luis acquired his DMD at the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon in Monterrey, Mexico, after which he obtained his Master of Dental Science and his Certificate of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Pittsburgh, USA. after this, he has held several positions at universities and (inter)national associations, such as Assistant Professor and subsequent Program director of the Graduate Pediatric Dentistry program at the Universidad Tecnológica de México, Mexico City. He was also president of the Mexican Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and Secretary of the Interior and Exterior and head of the Scientific Comission of the Mexican Dental Association, besides being part of the membership committee of the IAPD. He's also a well-known lecturer in Latin America, Mexico, USA and Europe.
