BACKGROUND

Over the years women have made strides in leadership globally in various sectors, including political office, international organizations and entrepreneurship. There is also increasing attention around the world on gender equality.

Despite these positive aspects, women remain underrepresented in senior leadership roles across industries and the world is far from attaining gender equality globally and the targets of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Legal restrictions have kept 2.7 billion women from accessing the same choice of jobs and men and the gender pay gap still exits in many countries.

Violence against women, is still prevalent and regrettably one in three women around the world have experienced gender-based violence. Furthermore, discrimination, including racial discrimination affects womens personal and professional lives, in particular women of colour.

The global pandemic has also given rise to different challenges and opportunities for women. The year 2022 is an opportunity for women to grow stronger in their careers and business, empower each other and collectively seek solutions for the biases they face and learn more about the practice of leadership from successful women and men leaders.

The conference will provide an opportunity to learn from seasoned and established women and men leaders from all sectors including among others, successful African women leaders, of diverse professional backgrounds, sharing experiences and thought leadership on a broad range of issues including working with international organizations, business, diplomatic missions, health and wellness sector and organizations working with womens rights , gender and diversity.
