DESCRIPTION

Research has demonstrated that social identification, belonging, and social integration are important for student wellbeing and health as well as for academic achievement. In this roundtable we will explore how important (or difficult) social integration is for students and postdocs at the Zurich universities. We will discuss the following issues:

- Why social integration is important to us

- What role age, academic program (BSc, MSc, PhD, Postdoc) and origin play

- How social integration (or the lack of it) influences our health and our academic performances

- And finally, what we can do towards more meaningful social connections at the university.

About the Moderator

Since 2019, Giorgia Zandomeneghi works in the Doctoral Administration at ETH and is responsible for organising the introductory program for the new doctoral students. She studied chemistry at the University of Pisa (Italy) and received her doctoral degree and the teaching diploma in chemistry at the ETH Zurich in the Department of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences. She has worked 15 years in research and research administration at ETH, besides teaching natural sciences in high schools in Zurich.

About the Speakers

Chaoran Xu is a master's student of banking and finance at the University of Zurich. She acquired her bachelor's degree in international business at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. During her undergraduate, she spent a one-semester exchange at the Faculty of Finance and Economics at the Queen Mary University of London. She has a passion for the financial industry especially equity research and behavioral finance track. She also enjoys interacting with people. In her spare time, she serves as an Ambassador at the Finance Club University of Zurich.
