Verify your financial information through Stripe

Eventbrite uses Stripe  to verify and process payments in Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and some countries in the EU. In order to pay you promptly and securely, our onboarding process has two steps. First, we collect “Know Your Customer” (KYC) information in your Organization information, and then we collect your bank account details. KYC procedures require Eventbrite to collect certain information, based on where your bank account is located and your organization type, to verify your identity before we send your payouts. The information you provide is securely sent to Stripe for review. If Stripe needs more information, you’ll receive a notification in your Eventbrite account. You must provide accurate and complete information to avoid payout delays.

Complete your Organization information

If you host paid events, Eventbrite requires you to complete your Organization information to collect the required KYC information for each country you operate in. Before you start, make sure you know which organization type to select:

Individual — A sole trader (Einzelunternehmer) is an unincorporated business owned by one individual. The individual has sole responsibility for making decisions, receives all the profits, claims all losses, and does not have separate legal status from the business. Sole traders register a trade with their local trade office (Gewerbeamt), while members of the liberal professions (Freiberufler) register directly with their tax office (Finanzamt). If you are a sole trader or a freelancer, you should select "individual" as the "Organization Type" during onboarding. This applies even if you are entered in the commercial register as a registered merchant (eingetragener Kaufmann, e.K.), because the business is still not legally separate from you.

Company — Creators onboarding as a "Company" have four options: Private corporation, Public corporation, Incorporated partnership, or Unincorporated partnership.

  • Private corporation — A private corporation is a business incorporated as a legal entity under the laws of Germany and entered in the commercial register (Handelsregister). It can enter into contracts and own property in its own name, separately and distinctly from its owners, and its shares are not traded on a public stock exchange. This includes a limited liability company (GmbH) and an entrepreneurial company (UG (haftungsbeschränkt)). If you are a private corporation, you should select "Company" as the "Organization type" and "Private corporation" as the "Business structure".

  • Public corporation — A public corporation is a business incorporated as a legal entity under the laws of Germany and entered in the Handelsregister, whose ownership shares are traded on a public stock exchange. This is typically a stock corporation (AG). If you are a public corporation, you should select "Company" as the "Organization type" and "Public corporation" as the "Business structure", then see Special organization types below.

  • Incorporated partnership — An incorporated partnership is a business jointly owned by two or more partners, created through a partnership agreement on a commercial scale and entered in the Handelsregister. This includes a general commercial partnership (OHG), a limited partnership (KG), and a GmbH & Co. KG. If you are an incorporated partnership, you should select "Company" as the "Organization type" and "Incorporated partnership" as the "Business structure".

  • Unincorporated partnership — An unincorporated partnership is a business jointly owned by two or more partners, created through a partnership agreement and not entered in the Handelsregister. This includes a civil law partnership (GbR) and a professional partnership (PartG). If you are an unincorporated partnership, you should select "Company" as the "Organization type" and "Unincorporated partnership" as the "Business structure".

If you are a sole trader or freelancer, select "Individual" rather than "Company". There is no sole trader option under Company for German organizations.

Non-profit — Creators onboarding as a "Non-profit" have two options: Incorporated non-profit or Unincorporated non-profit.

  • Incorporated non-profit — An incorporated non-profit is an organisation recognised as charitable (gemeinnützig) by its competent tax office and entered in a public register. This includes a registered association (e.V.), a registered cooperative (e.G.), and a charitable limited liability company (gGmbH or gUG). If you are an incorporated non-profit, you should select "Non-profit" as the "Organization type" and "Incorporated non-profit" as the "Business structure".

  • Unincorporated non-profit — An unincorporated non-profit is an organisation recognised as charitable by its competent tax office that is not entered in a public register. This includes an unregistered association (nicht eingetragener Verein, n.e.V.) and a dependent or trust foundation (unselbstständige Stiftung, Treuhandstiftung). If you are an unincorporated non-profit, you should select "Non-profit" as the "Organization type" and "Unincorporated non-profit" as the "Business structure".

Your charitable tax status doesn't determine which option to select. An exemption notice (Freistellungsbescheid) or a notice under section 60a of the German Fiscal Code from your tax office confirms that you are recognised as charitable, but the option you choose depends on whether your organisation is entered in a public register. Foundations with legal capacity (rechtsfähige Stiftungen) are recognised and supervised by the foundation authority of their federal state; a central foundation register is not yet in operation, so you may be asked for your recognition notice or a certificate of representation from that authority instead of a register extract.

For companies and non-profits, Eventbrite is required to collect, verify, and maintain information about beneficial owners. Stripe checks this against the transparency register (Transparenzregister). Since the Transparency Register and Financial Information Act took effect in August 2021, every entity must file its beneficial owners directly with the Transparenzregister — an entry in the Handelsregister or another register is no longer treated as sufficient on its own. Make sure the company name, commercial register number and local court (for example, HRB 12345, Amtsgericht München), and beneficial owner details you provide match what's filed there. Public access to the register is restricted, so you may be asked to log in to your own Transparenzregister account and upload a copy of your entry.

If your organization is located in Germany and is a government entity or publicly traded company, select Company in the Organization information tab and add your information. Then, contact Eventbrite Support to complete your Stripe verification. For public corporations, please note the following requirements:

  • The ticker provided on the letterhead must match your company's market ticker.

  • The company must be listed on a stock exchange in the EU or UK, such as the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, or on another HMRC-recognised stock exchange. Over-the-counter and grey market listings aren't accepted.

  • If your company isn't itself listed, it may still qualify if at least 51% of its equity is held by a publicly traded parent company on a recognised exchange. You'll need to provide the parent's ticker and exchange, public documentation of the ownership stake, and a letter of authorisation on the parent company's letterhead.

To complete your Organization information:

Stripe verifies your information

Eventbrite shares the details you provide in your Organization information with Stripe. Then, Stripe uses global databases to verify the information is correct. If you’re unsure of the information you provided or want to confirm it’s accurate, go to your Organization information  and select Edit to make changes.

If Stripe needs more information

If Stripe is unable to verify the information you provided, or otherwise requires more information, you’ll receive a notification when you log into your Eventbrite account. You’ll be redirected to Stripe to add this information. To begin the process, you may be asked to enter a mobile phone number to receive a text message. This is required for two-factor authentication (2FA) verification.

If the additional information is insufficient, you’ll receive another notification in your Eventbrite account. The process is complete when no further notifications appear in your account.
