figure it out (a temporary commune)

Instigated by Keith Hennessy in 2001, Circo Zero creates performances and artist solidarity programs responding to political crises, while centering queer bodies and ideas. Our experimental programming is guided by anti-racist, queer, feminist, and decolonial practices. Circo Zero is an artistic laboratory of political engagement, where the tools of dance, improvisation, somatics, collaboration, and public gathering are activated towards more liberated and loving realities. Our work is born in the cities, in the repurposed warehouses and factories, in the queer communities where cross-cultural traditions are complicated, reimagined, and renewed, in the independent art spaces where innovation meets the ancestors in unpredictable ways. And here, in these ruins and utopias, we dance.Deeply rooted in dance, LGBTQ, and activist communities, Circo Zero participates in local and global justice movements, functioning as an artistic laboratory of civic engagement. Circo Zero creates performances that offer a meeting ground for investigations of identity, history, and power.
