Umesh Chandra OAM
Umesh Chandra OAM is the current executive vice president of GOPIO International and the highest-ranking officer in this region.
Umesh is the founder, past president, life member, and a member of the GOPIO Queensland Board of Trustees.
Umesh Chandra is an international figure, highly respected nationally and internationally. His influence was further solidified in 2020 when he was awarded the OAM, Australia's highest civilian honour.
He attended the Global Community Leaders G20 in India and participated in the Global Leaders Peace Summit in Korea.
Umesh Chandra, a man of many hats, is a founder member and a member of the board of trustees of the Queensland Multicultural Council. He has also served on the police ethnic advisory group and the Lord Mayor's Multicultural Round Table, among other groups, showcasing his versatile and multi-faceted contributions.
He is the chair of the White Ribbon Queensland State Committee and has long been an ambassador for White Ribbon.
He has won many community service awards, including the Bharat Gaurav Award 2011. Umesh and Usha were named Brisbane City Council’s Citizen of the Year in 2019.
Umesh Chandra and Usha Chandra successfully operated Brisbane Indian Times and Australian Indian Radio for over twenty years; that part of the business has now been sold.
They own and operate Chantex Property Investments, Chantex Multi Media and Globenet Realty.
