Baptist E & M Convention of SC

The Baptist Educational and Missionary Convention of South Carolina was founded in 1877, by a group of black men who came together to enhance the quality of life in their churches and to provide a means of bringing Churches together on a statewide basis to address the educational needs of African Americans of all ages. The Convention of South Carolina (“BEMCSC”) is the largest organization of African Americans in the state.

The Convention is a vital Baptist denomination with an estimated membership of 1,100 Baptist Churches and 230,000 individual members across the state of South Carolina. Convention Departments include:

• South Carolina Congress of Christian Education

• South Carolina Baptist Brotherhood

• Women’s Baptist Educational and Missionary Convention of South Carolina

• Ushers Department

• Music Department

The convention remains committed to helping citizens address challenges in areas such as educational opportunities, societal participation, economic empowerment and development, and the achievement of universal human rights. The BEMCSC Headquarters is located at 1531 Hampton Street, Columbia, South Carolina.
