Writers Alliance of Gainesville
The Writers Alliance of Gainesville (WAG) was founded to enrich the literary landscape of Gainesville, Florida, by fostering community among writers of all genres and experience levels. What began as the vision of author Kal Rosenberg and the leadership of our first president, Wendy Thornton, has grown into a thriving nonprofit organization with more than 200 members dedicated to the craft of writing and the joy of storytelling.
Since its incorporation in 2008 and its first public meeting in January 2009, WAG has continued to expand, both in membership and in the scope of its activities. In 2011, WAG became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, ensuring its mission to support and inspire writers would have a lasting foundation.
WAG’s heart lies in its members—writers who come together to share ideas, offer critiques, and support one another on their creative journeys. Our volunteers play a vital role in sustaining the organization, from coordinating critique pods and publishing a literary journal to organizing monthly speaker programs, book sales, contests, and more.
Our monthly programs, typically held at the Alachua County Library’s Millhopper Branch, feature guest authors, educators, and industry professionals who bring fresh insight into the writing process and the publishing world. These programs are free and open to the public, welcoming writers and readers alike to engage in Gainesville’s literary community.
Whether you are a seasoned author, a poet, a journalist, or someone just beginning to explore creative expression, WAG offers a welcoming space to connect, learn, and grow. As a nonprofit, we also welcome tax-deductible donations to help us continue providing opportunities and resources for writers in Gainesville and beyond.
Join us as we celebrate the art of writing and the power of words.
